Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

There are many words one could use to describe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but as I reflect in this moment there are three key words that come to mind: Faith, Courage and Unity.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of great religious faith and I believe that faith fed a strong belief in a higher power but also in the fact that what is right and just will ultimately win over what is wrong and unjust.

I think Dr. King's faith also gave him the human super power of courage, and his courage inspired other civil rights leaders/activists and gave them the will to do what others could not in very perilous situations and times. Dr. King had tremendous courage to carryout several non-violent protests while facing violent opposition each step of the way and he had the mental and moral strength to withstand the dangers he faced on a daily basis.

Lastly, unity was needed during Dr. King's time and unity is what is needed in our current times as well. Dr. King focused on Human rights for all, not just blacks, and wanted us to live together in harmony.

One of my goals this year is to spread an attitude of positivity and to be more neighborly. Maybe if we can be more open, listen to others with intent it will foster better communication and understanding so that we can live in a more harmonious state.
